Exhibition "City Hall"
The City Hall, one of the most representative buildings in Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina, has an exceptionally rich and complex history. As a city hall, and then as the long-standing headquarters of the National and University Library of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the City Hall has been at the center of key political, cultural and social events for more than a century.
It has witnessed the change of several state systems, the Sarajevo assassination, the terrible events of two world wars, the unique rise of the city during the XIV Winter Olympic Games in 1984, and finally, as the National and University Library, it was exposed to barbaric attack, arson and destruction. It has thus become a modern metaphor for urbicide and culturicide.
The permanent exhibition "City Hall" was created as part of the process of restoring this symbol of the city, with the aim of presenting visitors with the history, meaning and destiny of one of the most important national monuments of Bosnia and Herzegovina in a concise and understandable way.
