Statehood Day
November 25 is the national holiday and the day celebrated as the Statehood Day of Bosnia and Herzegovina. On this day in 1943, the historic first session of the National Anti-Fascist Council of People's Liberation of Bosnia and Herzegovina was held in a small Bosnian town called Mrkonjich Grad.
On this meeting a decision was made to restore the statehood of Bosnia and Herzegovina lost in 1463 with arrival of the Ottoman Empire. At this session, the country borders dating back to medieval Bosnia were confirmed, and Bosnia and Herzegovina became one of the six equal republics of the former Yugoslavia.
Through this interesting exhibition you can familiarize yourself with this important event for our country, as well as with the most important years in its history. Exhibition timeline begins from 1189 and the publication of the Charter of Kulin Ban, the first diplomatic document written in the old Bosnian language and the oldest work written in the Bosnian Cyrillic script.
This fascinating document is considered to be the official birth certificate of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
