CITY COUNCIL HALL

The City Council Hall as its name suggests, was primarily used for the assembly sessions of the City Council of Sarajevo, between 1896 and 1949. After the renovation and reopening of the City Hall in 2014, regular sessions of the City Council are held in this room. The hall has 64 seats for councilors and other members of the city administration, 8 places for journalists, the chairman’s desk and the rostrum. Chairs are made from oak with folding mechanism and additional technological improvements for modern use.

The chairman’s desk and the rostrum are handmade from solid oak featuring detailed carved designs and decorative elements derived from original design documents. Walls are lines with a solid oak decorative paneling featuring applications and details also derived from the original documentation. In the corners of the room, at the very top of the walls, you can notice decorative elements made in plaster, so-called stalactites. Besides the aesthetic value they also have a functional role, because the apertures within them serve to improve the acoustics of the room.

On the left side wall, near the ceiling, you can notice the original fragment of the wall decoration (slightly darker color) which was saved and preserved in its original condition by the architects who led the reconstruction of the building, as evidence of authentic restoration.

After the reconstruction and reopening of the City Hall, this room is used for regular sessions of the City Council of Sarajevo, which has a total of 28 members. The City Council Hall is also used for hosting seminars, conferences, congresses of local and international governmental and non-governmental organizations and diplomatic missions in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
